TREND Pulse Report: PWS and Emotional and Behavioral Patterns

TREND Community released its latest report on PWS and Emotional and Behavioral Patterns. This report analyzed conversations parents and caregivers were having on the topic of emotional and behavioral issues. In a testament to the dedication and connection of parents to their loved ones, the largest primary emotion category was “Happiness”, with “Love” being the most commonly expressed emotion. Due to the nature of PWS, “Worry” was the second largest primary emotion category, with “Fear” as the largest subcategory. The report continues with an analysis of PWS-specific challenges like tantrums, meltdowns, and skin picking and covers topics related to behavior management like Behavior Therapy and Psychiatric Dosing and Pediatric Therapy Services. This report can help parents and caregivers understand the commonalities of individuals with PWS and management strategies, while providing researchers and professionals with a clearer understanding of where support and interventions are needed.

TREND Community

TREND Community is a community-powered digital analytics company that turns the conversations of rare and chronic disease communities into actionable insights. PWSA | USA partnered with TREND Community to help further PWS research through conversations.  For two years, TREND collected data from Facebook group conversations to gain important insight into the issues families were facing.

Please note that there was no personal information attached to the data that was collected, but merely the keywords and topics that were being discussed. Some of the data collected by TREND has already fostered and shaped ongoing PWS trials.
